Dorothy A. Purk, age 88, of Piqua, OH, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 7:43 p.m. at Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana, OH. She was born in Champaign County, OH, on August 16, 1926, to the late Albert Laurel and Margaret (Locker) Bodey. On March 13, 1948, in St. Paris, OH, she married Paul E. Purk. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1981.
Dorothy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William and Keri Purk, Urbana, OH; two grandchildren, Ali Purk and Caitlin Purk both of Urbana, OH; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Bodey, Urbana, OH, and Ruth Bryan, Piqua, OH; three brothers-in-law, Don Swartz, Pleasant Hill, OH, Richard (Marilyn) Purk, Sebring, FL; a special niece, Pat Smith, Piqua, OH; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Dorothy attended Madison Avenue Church of God, Piqua. She also attended Springcreek Baptist Church, Piqua, OH. Dorothy was a member of Orange Township Homemakers of Shelby Co., OH, and High Point String Players of Bellefontaine, OH. She was a former member of the musical groups Easy Country and High Country. Dorothy was also an active volunteer for the Lockington Fire Department, Lockington, OH, for many years. She was a homemaker and an excellent seamstress. Dorothy also taught rug making, quilting and made 487 sets of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME, Piqua, with Rev. Nancy Hardin officiating. Burial will follow at Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher.
