obit:Sherman Maxel Davis, 71, Sidney, passed away peacefully, on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at 12:47 a.m. at Dorothy Love Retirement Center surrounded by his loving family.
Sherman was faithful to the Lord and spent many hours devoting his time to the congregation at the Full Gospel Community Church, Sidney.
Sherman was born April 27, 1940, in Elk Valley, Tenn., the son of the late Jesse Michael and Ethel (Jeffers) Davis.
On Sept. 11, 1960, he married Delphia Blankenship, and she died on April 2, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Sarah) Davis, of Sidney, and Dennis (Susan) Davis, of Cincinnati; one brother; Paul (Sarah) Davis, of Pine Knot, Ky.; sisters, Thelma (Ken) Raleigh, of Corbin, Ky., Betty (Junior) Warfield, of Pine Knot, Ky., Ollie (Buck) Bexler, of Pine Knot, Ky., Glenna (Bob) Perkins, of Elk Valley, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Jessica Jowers, of Hamilton, Olivia Davis, of Sidney, Daniel Valentine, of Anna, Amber Saffle, of Spencerville, and Joshua Harr, of Dayton; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William Everett Davis.
Sherman was retired from the Stolle Corp. He was a member of the Full Gospel Community Church.
Sherman and Delphia dearly loved putting out a large garden every year. Working in the vegetable garden gave them much joy as well as canning and sharing their bounty with friends and family. In his earlier days Sherman loved to take his boys fishing.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, by Pastor Jeff Hill. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens, Sidney.
