Merritt was the son of Levi Stark and Augusta Everett. Frances was the daughter of Frank W. Perin and Cora Parker. They were married 29 October 1932 in Seneca County, Ohio.
Frances married a man with the surname of Herbert after Merritt's death. She died in Riverside, California.
