Lester-WWII-US Army

Lester G. McKinney 99 of Sidney, passed away at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Fair Haven Shelby County Home in Sidney.

Lester was born Jan. 26, 1911, in Houston, to the late Charles E. and Clara J. (Mader) McKinney.

Lester was a lifetime farmer; substitute mail carrier for nine years in the Russia-Houston area; and worked for 20 years in the Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service Office in Sidney. Lester served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lester was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles. He was a Loramie Township Trustee for 16 years.

In addition to his parents, Lester was also preceded in death by his wife, Erma Mae (Wintringham) McKinney on Jan. 14, 1996, whom he married Jan. 18, 1941; and twin brother, Chester McKinney on Aug. 17, 1998.

Lester is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Elmer Trapp, of Sidney; grandchildren, Dawn and Steve Frasure of Sidney, Dale E. Schutte and wife, of Sidney, Donna and Ham Cole, of Anna and Ronda Schutte, of Sidney; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Routson, of Sidney.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Keith Falk officiating. Burial will follow in Houston Cemetery in Houston.
