LEONARD "GENE" CATHCART, 86, of Sidney, passed away at 10:59 AM Friday, July 29, 2016 at Dorothy Love Retirement Community. He was born on October 23, 1929 in Shelby County, Ohio, the son of the late Bert and Lola (Davis) Cathcart. On December 2, 1950 he married Betty Jane Levering, who preceded him in death on November 22, 2005.
Gene is survived by five children, Bill Cathcart, Gary (Jackie) Cathcart, both of Houston, Dart (Diane) Cathcart of Maplewood, OH, Vicki Cathcart, and Pae Morrow, both of Sidney; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Cathcart was a graduate of Sidney High School, class of 1947, and a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Krogers where he worked as a meat cutter for 50 years. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post #217, and a member of the Ohio Horseshoe Pitching League. He enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 12:00 PM at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., with Pastor Kris Geise officiating. Burial will be at Houston Cemetery.

Born in Piqua, daughter of William & Myrtle (Whitman) Levering. Married Gene Cathcart.

Betty Jane Cathcart, 73, 4181 Hardin-Wapakoneta Road, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at 4:22 a.m. at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 12, 1932, in Piqua, the daughter of the late William and Myrtle (Whitman) Levering.

She married Gene Cathcart on Dec. 2, 1950.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Mrs. Cathcart, a homemaker, worked bingo at the Houston Community Center for 15 years and helped organize the Athletic Boosters organization at Houston High School.

She was a member of the Sidney Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave. Burial will be in Houston Cemetery.
