Robert L. "Bob" Wiltheiss, age 89, of Berne, Ind., and formerly of Piqua, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2016, in Swiss Village Nursing Home, Berne.
Born on March 18, 1927, in Casstown, Bob was a son of the late Ernest C. and Edith M. (Knoop) Wiltheiss. He married Phyllis June Maxson on June 25, 1947, and she survives in Berne.
He is survived by four children and their spouses, Marilyn and Dale Morgan, of Piqua, Becky and the Rev. Ronald Devenport, Walkerton, Ind., Bertie and Jim Lehman, of Berne, Ind., and Daniel and Becky Wiltheiss, of Piqua. He was a loving grandfather to 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Bob is also survived by four sisters, Nellie Thornton, of, Erie, Pa., Peggy Drennan, of Covington, Ohio, Carla VanHoogan, of Boise, Idaho, and Janet Maxson of Conover; a sister-in-law, Glenna Wiltheiss, of Ohio, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandchild, a great-grandchild, four brothers, Ernest, Donald, Gene Richard, and Dr. Jack Wiltheiss, and five sisters, Betty Carity, Doris Elifritz, Mildred Weatherhead, Carol Woods, and Lois Boehringer.
Bob was an active member of the Union Baptist Church and served as a trustee for the Ohio Baptist Convention. He was a member of the Ohio Baptist Men, worked with Youth for Christ and served as a treasurer for Baptist Camp. He graduated from Lena Conover High School in the class of 1945, and he retired in 1981 as street superintendent after 30 years with the city of Piqua.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the Union Baptist Church, 1833 E. Peterson Road, Troy, Ohio, with the Rev. Marla Brown, his niece, and the Rev. Dale Adkins, church pastor co-officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher, Ohio.
