Virgil K. Schmidt, 74, 501 S. Walnut St., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at 12:20 p.m. at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Shelby County, the son of Ruben and Melsenia (Snyder) Schmidt. He was married for 51 years to Wanda Schmidt, who survives. Other survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Richard (Durenda) Chappie of Conover, Mrs. James (Donna) Studebaker of Troy, Mrs. David (Diana) Schaffer of Fletcher, Mrs. David (Denise) Coppock of Piqua, and Mrs. Ed (Dora) Rodriguez of Los Alamos, N.M.; a sister, Margaret Calloway of Piqua; two brothers, Ernest Schmidt of Sidney and Earl Schmidt of Hardin; and six grandchildren. A sister and a granddaughter preceded him in death. Mr. Schmidt was employed at Copeland Corp. in Sidney for 401/2 years, retiring in 1990. He was a 1948 graduate of Houston High School. He was a member of Fletcher Grange 2707 and Staunton Grange 2685 for a combined total of more than 50 years. He was a member of the Pioneer Travelers Camping Club. He attended Troy Baptist Temple and was a trustee and usher. Services are set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Suber Funeral Home in Fletcher, with the Rev. Rick Arrowood and the Rev. Frank Workman officiating. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery
