Richard M. "Pud" Barger, 93 of St. Paris, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998 at 1 a.m. in his residence.
Born Oct. 29, 1904 in Millerstown, he was the son of James I and Ida Mae Gumpert Barger, who are both deceased.
A 1922 graduate of Johnson-St. Paris High School, Mr. Barger was a faithful member of Covenant Lutheran Church, St. Paris. He was a retired farmer and had lived on a farm two miles northwest of St. Paris on State Route 235 until his retirement in 1981.
He was a former member of the First Central National Bank Board of Directors, St. Paris, a member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau, the St. Paris Lions Club where he served as past president, and a former member of the Johnson Township Zoning Board.
He is survived by three sisters and two brothers-inlaws, Asenath Erwin, Urbana, Alice and Max Skidmore, Eaton Park, FL, and Betty and Riley Roush, Urbana, Several nieces and nephews; and special friends who were past and present caregivers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marie (Apple) Barger on Jan. 29, 1995. They were married Dec. 15, 1925. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Glendon, Laurel, Millard and Howard Barger.
The family will receive friends at the Covenant Lutheran Church, corner of St. Church and W. Main streets, St. Paris, from 12 noon until the time of services as 1 p.m. The Rev. James Cope, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, St. Paris.
