David Mitchell was a son of Samuel Mitchell and Margaret Alexander. About 1782, David married Martha 'Mattie' Black in Lancaster County, PA. They had seven children when they migrated with his parents and siblings to 1000 acres in the Big Darby Creek wilderness in 1799. After Mattie's death, David married Rebecca Nelson on 26 Feb 1824 who died soon after their wedding. Then, on 6 Oct 1825, he married Hannah Caldwell.
