Jane Taylor was the oldest daughter of Daniel Taylor and Mary Brown and was born in 1792 in Virginia before her family migrated to Ohio. Before arriving in Ohio about 1802, Jane's father had been swindled by con-men in the Kentucky bogus land title scheme. The Taylor family was given assistance by one of the earliest Ohio pioneers, Jonathan Alder, who shared his 'hut' with them. On 24 Feb 1808, Jane married Moses Mitchell, the oldest son of Judge David Mitchell and Martha 'Mattie' Black. Jane and Moses had five children who survived to adulthood. Jane died 20 Apr 1823 at the young age of 31 years.
